Expert Advice – Protect your skin and survive this Heat wave

Expert Advice from Harley Street – Dr Ariel Haus, Cosmetic Dermatologist

Beauty is more than skin deep so the Sociable Chatterbox went to get some exclusive tips from Dr Ariel Haus, specialist in Cosmetic Dermatology

Dr Haus’s London clinic is conveniently located at 10 Harley Street so I was happy to be returning to my old local neighborhood of Marylebone once again

I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Dr Haus by my Portuguese friend Peter, owner of boutique da silva pr  two years ago.  Since then we have kept in touch and seen one another at many glamorous soirees here in London

Dr Ariel Haus, Cosmetic Dermatologist

“Brazilians know best when it comes to beauty”, I have learned this from my sister in law Natalie, and her family. I  have since been exposed to many rituals that only the indoctrinated know about

I have standards to live up to, my own Grand Mother was a Beauty Queen, she swore by Oil of Olay and despite several trips to the sun without SPF (they didn’t wear it back then), she looked amazing all her life

It is a known fact that Brazilians are the innovators when it comes to Cosmetic Dermatology, but it was interesting to learn that they are at least 20 years ahead of the rest of the world.  To add to his accolades, Dr Haus, who was born in Rio de Janeiro, has developed a new technique to administer skin booster for which he lectures at worldwide conferences where he shares his knowledge and experience on a global platform

But no need to jump on that plane just yet my dears, because Dr Haus splits his time between his London and Rio de Janeiro clinics, keeping everyone happy and staying beautiful.  Dr Haus is passionate about helping his patients to feel confident and positive about their skin

My visit to Dr Haus Dermatology

On my arrival to Dr Haus’s rooms, I was greeted by his lovely Assistant Marita, a Brazilian beauty, was looking great in her smart tailored black dress.  I was immediately offered a glass of chilled water and a Nespresso coffee, which perked me up to no end having just endured a trip from the city in 30C!

Yes, summer has finally arrived after that endless winter and an air-conditioned surgery was just where I needed to be to escape the stifling heat of the afternoon sun

Moments later I was whisked in to see Dr Haus, and as always he was impeccably dressed and looked and smelled like he had just stepped out of the Hermes store.  My mission was to get some expert tips on how to survive the heat and how we can preserve our skin and youthful looks

Dr Haus, the God of everlasting beauty, quickly began conveying some valuable pearls of wisdom, which I will now share with you

Daily Summer Beauty Regime

  1. Cleanse your face with Bioderma Sensibio H2O cleanser £10
  2. Spray your face with some La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water. This also acts as a moisturizer.  In fact the Dr recommends that you should carry some in your hand bag and use to freshen up as required 50ml from £5
  3. An important step many of us forget is to use a Toner, Eucerin Dermato Clean Clarifying Toner is perfect and should be applied just before you moisturize.  This is because it prepares the skin to absorb the moisturizer £10
  4. A newly launched celebrity favourite used by Jennifer Aniston, Charlize Theron, Drew Barrymore and Simon Cowell that the Dr recommends is Shinso Skin Care.  Their serum uses water from one of the world’s purest sources, the Sea of Japan.  It’s natural blend of 69 Japanese herbs and botanicals refines the skin’s texture and leaves the face more youthful and radiant.  It also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It neutralizes age accelerating free radicles and repairs previously damaged skin cells.  It can be applied to both the eye and face area and used twice daily, morning and evening.   The Shinso Essence is oil, chemical, fragrance and paraben free and is available exclusively from Dr Haus’s Clinic for £255
  5. Next use La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL 50+ Sunblock Factor 50+ price from £10 also available in a tinted cream format so this can a lighter alternative to wearing foundation in the Summer time.  The extreme fluid is recommended for combination and oily skin and avoiding blocked pores

Tips for staying youthful in the sun

Avoid sun exposure between 10am-4pm to minimize skin damage as well as hyper pigmentation and future risks of skin cancer

Apply sunblock min Factor 50 at least 20 minutes before exposure

Always wear a rimmed hat and sunglasses

Stay hydrated by drinking at least 2 litres of mineral water per day.  Fresh Coco Water works well as an alternative

Minimize intake of alcohol or drink at least one glass of water for each glass of alcohol

My personalized treatment experience

I was ushered through to the treatment room where Dr Haus offered me the opportunity to try a simple chemical peel.  The treatment started when I was given a hair net to tie back my hair and then my skin was cleansed with Eucerin Dermato Clean, which instantly cleansed and refreshed my skin.  He then applied some Salicylic acid and rubbed it onto my skin with some cotton wool.  I felt a slight tingling sensation as the acid was working its magic to promote a peeling effect and cell renewal.  The Dr told me it also encourages the skin to produce collagen

After this my face was spritzed with thermal water and then La-Roche Posay Effaclar H cooling gel was smeared onto my skin leaving it cool and was left to work for 15 minutes.  Then the gel was removed and a further spritz of thermal water was applied.  Within 45 minutes my skin was cleansed and toned and of course smothered with a sun block 50+ was before I was left to venture outside. I was given full and easy to follow post treatment advice and after care instructions

The results were visible immediately!  I noticed a reduced pore size and tighter skin and I felt that my skin was glowing and radiant. I didn’t experience any irritation or redness so downtime is not necessary.  I would recommend this treatment as an ideal lunchtime treat or after work pick me up in preparation for a hot date or that special occasion

Dr Haus recommends at least 1 peel per month to maintain a youthful and fresh appearance.  Regular peels are said to helps decrease the ageing process.  The Dr also reminds us to note that this is not the same as going to the Beautician these treatments are Medical and administered by a qualified Dermatologist so have lasting effects

I left looking and feeling fabulous thanks to Dr Haus.  Now you too must try this for yourselves.   Go on, I know you want to!  Oh, and please do mention The Sociable Chatterbox as Dr Haus promises to look after my readers!

Treatments are tailor made to suit all patients however as a guideline they start from around £190 for a gentle skin peel

Please do let me know if you would have any specific questions for Dr Haus or if there are any treatments you would like me to experience on your behalf
