See stars on your plate at Le Cirque, New York 5*

Throwback to my visit to New York next time you go you must try Le Cirque

Situated right in the heart of Midtown Manhattan situated in the Bloomberg Tower building at One Beacon Court you will find New York’s most acclaimed French restaurant, Le Cirque.  I have got to stay that for me it was a spectacular show that night, in fact it was a show stopping performance

From start to finish Chef Raphael continued to tantalise our tastebuds and surprise and delight us as we indulged in the Tasting Menu.  Raphael, the French Belgian casanova has settled in like a duck to water following his move across the pond from London to New York.  While he hasn’t lost his distinctive French accent I did however notice some American notes setting in.  He is how quite at home with Siro Maccioni and the family

While I visited Le Cirque was commemorating forty years of stellar performances by producing French classics like Lobster Salad, Le Cirque Flounder and Beetroot Risotto. These have been modernised by Raphael who who has added his own signature interpretation. This combined with his modern European influences are what sets this great place apart from others

Leafing through the menu is such a pleasure, as well as nostalgia infused classics like Mushroom Risotto you will find some that pay tribute to the past star chefs who have once donned their whites and sharpened their knives in this kitchen like Daniel Boulud, David Bouley and Jacques Torres

But there is one thing for sure there’s nothing like good old fashioned service delivered but true professionals these guys are not one trick ponies and know how to impress.  This Grand Dame establishment has earned her air miles in travel and hospitality but will never takes for granted what matters it’s the people as well as consistently good food that make a great place

Being acknowledged and looked after so well warms the cockles of my Irish heart but knowing your favourite dish is available each time you dine here and the assurance that the extra mile is par for the course is what makes Le Cirque so special!

Consistency is vital in the world where the simple things in life are often absent these days but they certainly have plenty of it at Le Cirque

Add it to your New York dining hit list today

Combat the effects of time with Sublime — December 21, 2013

Combat the effects of time with Sublime

To continue my Expert Advice series last week I stopped by to visit the the lovely Dr Haus to catch up on what’s hot in Harley Street right now.  With the festive season upon us I asked Dr Haus if there was a quick pick me up to perk me up and to give me a glow just on time for the holiday season.

Dr Ariel Haus, Cosmetic Dermatologist
Dr Ariel Haus

As always the Dr had just the right solution and suggested that I try Sublime Skin Contouring.  This is a quick 45 minute treatment that produces immediate results and most importantly no downtime is required.  So effectively this can be done over a lunch time or indeed right after work.

The treatment itself

I was taken to the treatment room and my face was cleansed and some anaesthetic cream was applied to numb the chosen area to be treated which was my cheek and jawline.  I was left to relax for 10 minutes for it to take effect.  I was provided with a hair net and one I had this on some cooling ultra sound gel was applied to the area to be treated.  The gel keeps the skin cool and optimises the effects of the bi-polar radio frequency.  The objective was to stimuate collagen production by using a process that heats the dermal tissue, this is done by a combination of bi-polar radio frequency and light energy by elos technology.  This technology by elos is a collaboration of brand leaders Syneron Candela.  A probe rubbed in a upward motion over the area to be treated for approximately 20 minutes.  It was for the most part relaxing with the odd stinging sensation.  Once the skin is encouraged to produce more collagen then signs of ageing are reversed and a more youthful complexion is achieved.

Mid way through the treatment Dr Haus handed me a mirror to show the lifting plumping effects that were immediately apparent. Of course as with all treatments the total number of treatments required and effects vary from person to person.  Some notice that fine lines and wrinkles are reduced resulting in smoother firmer skin.

The effects

After the treatment my face was cleansed and some La-Roche Possay Thermal Water £10 was applied which hydrates the skin and acts as a moisturiser.  Afterwards Shinso essence now a firm cult favourite used by Jennifer Aniston, Charlize Theron, Drew Barrymore and Simon Cowell it’s no surprise that the Dr recommends Shinso Skin Care.  Their serum uses water from one of the world’s purest sources, the Sea of Japan.  It’s natural blend of 69 Japanese herbs and botanicals refines the skin’s texture and leaves the face more youthful and radiant.  It also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It neutralizes age accelerating free radicles and repairs previously damaged skin cells.  It can be applied to both the eye and face area and used twice daily, morning and evening.   The Shinso Essence is oil, chemical, fragrance and paraben free and is available from Dr Haus’s Clinic for just £255.

Shinso Essence
Shinso Essence

For me it felt like I had a very high tech facial with significant results so I think it’s well worth a try.

Dr Haus recommends a course of 6 treatments over a period of 3-4 weeks.  This treatment also works well on other areas including forehead furrows brow lines and a craggy neck.

It works even better with a combination of other treatments and Dr Haus suggests you try with a simple chemical peel.  See more details in my previous blog post…this-heat-wave/

So a thoughtful Christmas gift idea for yourself or for someone you love …….

Enjoy and have a fun filled glowing festive seasons! xox The Sociable Chatterbox

Expert Advice – Seasonal Street Style Tips — December 8, 2013

Expert Advice – Seasonal Street Style Tips

The Sociable Chatterbox went to chat to the fabulous Holly McGlynn, Street Style Fashion Photographer about seasonal trends on the street.  She was delighted to meet this amazing Irish snap happy lady on Portobello Road a few weeks ago.

Nicola McSorley (c) Holly McGlynn for Company Magazine
Nicola McSorley (c) Holly McGlynn for Company Magazine

So having hit it off like a “house on fire” not really sure where this expression comes from but wanted to ask Holly a few Q’s to help us get through the silly season ahead.

The SC – Holly, tell me about the major trends we can expect to see in street style over the coming weeks?

The run up to Christmas is always an explosion of sequined dresses, LBDs, silver, gold and glitter. Christmas jumpers are always popular and can be a fun festive nod to the season while keeping your look quite street. I like getting dressed up for a party as much as the next person but it’s all just a bit predictable this time of year. I love to see something alternative, some sharp tailoring instead of glittery dress, a sweatshirt teamed with a jewelled skirt instead of a body con. Over the next few weeks I’ll be looking to photograph girls who do things a little differently and eschew the old reliables. Try a brocade suit, some coloured faux-fur, or some mannish shapes, it’s fashion, have fun with it!

The SC – Who in your opinion are the biggest influencers of the moment?

There’s no denying fashion bloggers are the biggest influence on street style at the moment. They make fashion accessible, wearable, relevant and fun. They’re connecting with audiences in a way brands wish they could, which is why so many brands are collaborating with them! Check out La Petite Anglaise and Mademoiselle Robot, 2 amazing bloggers I work closely with.

The SC – What’s hot & what’s not right now?

Tartan, punk, tailoring, oversized coats, pink are all huge trends this winter. What’s not? Wearing something you’re not comfortable in just because it’s on trend, so passe!

The SC – Where in your opinion are the best places to people watch great looks?

My street style work takes me to every pocket of London and I alway find great style wherever I go. I’m loving Brixton at the moment though, so many amazing places to eat or drink while people watching and so many cool, urban backdrops to shoot against.

The SC – Do you think people are influenced in how they dress by their local area?

Possibly, you definitely see a shift in style across the capital, more put together in the west, more undone in the east…but I’d hate to generalise!

The SC – Describe a regular work day?

At the moment, kind of manic! Sometimes I’ll have 3 shoots in a day and I’ll fit street style in around those plus editing the jobs. The best days for street style are when I’m not dashing around and I can just take my time wandering the streets, finding great style at my own pace. Once in a while I get a day when all I have to do is edit photos at home. In my pyjamas. Preferably with a beer in hand. Those are the good days!

The SC – Tell us who inspires you and how you made it as a street photographer?

I’m inspired by fashion blogs with beautiful photography, other photographers, amazing editorial, and exhibitions. I love photos with a little drama or humour. Australian photographer She is Frank is amazing, her photos are funny, cheeky, edgy and beautiful.

I managed to break into the industry by building up a strong portfolio and relentlessly hawking myself around trying to get commissioned. Eventually it worked! It’s funny though, one job lead to the next and it all snowballed really quickly.

The SC – Are there any insights you can share on the future of street photography?

Street photography is so ubiquitous now, I think there’s a change afoot for sure. Although I don’t know what!

The SC – Do you like getting your own pic taken?

Even though I direct people on how to pose every day, I haven’t a clue what to do once I’m on the other side of the lens, I’m totally out of my comfort zone! I have very few photos of myself though (occupational hazard) so I’d like to remedy that.

The SC – Any tips for us in how to perfect our pose?

Relax! That is fundamentally the most important thing because if you look uncomfortable the camera picks up on it straight away. So unclench that jaw, unball those fists, and relax those shoulders, you look fabulous!

Introducing Skinade – Liquid collagen beauty in a bottle — October 23, 2013

Introducing Skinade – Liquid collagen beauty in a bottle

During London Fashion Week The Sociable Chatterbox was invited to a soiree organised by the gorgeous people at Fashion TV held at the glamorous Home House. I was delighted to meet some of the co sponsors of the evening especially the team at Skinade.

Skinade is a new go to for an instant glow and energy boost. It’s that easy!

Piers Raper CEO Skinade says, ‘Better Skin From Within’ is a drink with a specific blend of micro nutrients and beautycuticals that promote better, healthier younger looking skin from the inside out.

Skin, the largest organ in our body, is also the most tell-tale indicator of our age and our lifestyle.  Fine lines, wrinkles and the loss of facial firmness are all visible signs of ageing.

Maintaining the connective tissue beneath the skin’s surface is key to targeting these skin concerns and can dramatically improve the skin’s youthful, healthy appearance.

Skin creams and other topical skin treatments are very important for maintaining the health of the top two layers of the skin, however Skinade works from within working directly on the dermis layer, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and building better, healthier looking skin from the base layer up.

Skinade is a real innovation: formulated and manufactured in the UK. Skinade is a professional level product sold only through high end salons, dermatologists and Harley Street Doctors such as Dr. Ariel Haus on Harley Street.

Kelly Osborne

My personal experience
I started by drinking Skinade first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything else. I stored it in the fridge so it was nice and cool, it contains just 35 calories and as it is in liquid format which is a micro nutrient formula which is easily absorbed. It tastes quite nice I would say like a peach and mango flavor. This professional product works from the inside out. Its active ingredients include: hydrolysed marine collagen, Vitamin C, Omega 3 & 6, MSM, Vitamin B complex and L-lysine which is an essential amino acid.

All ingredients work in synergy to create healthier, stronger skin. After the first week I noticed that my skin became softer and fresher looking. It’s always great to see almost instant results. I started to get compliments from friends saying I was glowing by week 2. At the time of writing this piece I have been taking Skinade for 4 weeks and my skin is shinier, clearer, smoother and without doubt looks rejuvenated.

The collagen in Skinade is the highest quality source from hydrolysed marine collagen obtained from fresh water fish, low in salt and mercury.

The hydrolysed marine collagen has a low molecular weight, which facilitates high absorption, bioavailability and transport to where it is needed. As soon as the body senses the presence of collagen in the blood stream, it is encourage to replicate it. The receptors in the body kickstart the normal production of collagen so your body returns to a younger state of synthesis.

My verdict is that Skinade is definitely worth a try at an RRP £15 per 5 day supply it’s good value for money too. Skinade was launched very recently and already has a cult celebrity following.  See pictures attached and taken from the Skinade library.

See below for links to find out how to buy Skinade.

Ingredients in Skinade

Hydrolysed Marine Collagen: collagen is a structural component of the skin.  Each bottle of Skinade contains 7000mg for maximum efficacy. Skinade has an 80% absorption rate compared to only 30-40%in tablet form.
Vitamin C: is an essential part of collagen assimilation and the normal function of the skin. The Vitamin C is in the form of calcium ascorbate, which is gentle on the stomach. This is important, as a high dose (450% RDA) is needed to facilitate absorption of the collagen.
MSM: is a naturally occurring form of organic sulphur found in all living organisms and an important factor in accurate cell division.
B Vitamins: riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3) and biotin contribute to the maintenance of normal skin health. Vitamin B2 also contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Folic acid and vitamin B12 play a role in the process of cell division
Omega 3 and 6: natural essential fatty acids. Skinade is formulated with omegas exclusively from organic flax seed oil. This is an essential skin balancing agent that helps moisturise dry skin and balances oily, problem skin.
L-lysine: is an essential amino acid that is depleted as we age. It is key to rebuilding the collagen matrix in the dermis at the cellular level.
All Skinade ingredients are EU approved.

Expert Advice – Carboxytherapy to Revitaleyes — September 28, 2013

Expert Advice – Carboxytherapy to Revitaleyes

It has been said that the eyes are the window to your soul and studies have shown that lifestyle, genetics, lack of sleep and stress have a cumulative effect on the under eye area resulting in dark circles giving us a tired and unrested look

With Winter fast approaching we need to wrap and I went to visit Dr Haus to find out how we can look fresher and at our very best for the Party season ahead

He recommended Carboxytherapy as a quick fix solution, so my friends I am now pleased to share my personal experience with you ….

Dr Ariel Haus

What is Carboxytherapy…?

Carboxytherapy originated in the Royal Spas of France back in 1932 and have been popular in Brazil for some time but is a relatively new treatment here in the UK.  It involves the injecting of a small amount of carbon dioxide gas just beneath the skin’s surface, which is turn boosts the oxygen flow to the area eliminating the darkness caused by poor circulation

Carbon dioxide is produced by the body naturally, and should not be confused with the potentially fatal carbon monoxide

Following treatment the skin texture and contour around the eyes will improve and in most patients the under-eye circles will look to have completely disappeared. Depending on each patients metabolism usually between 2-4 treatments are required all spaced one week apart

Carboxytherapy Treatment
Carboxytherapy Treatment

My Personal Experience

Dr Haus applied some anesthetic cream on four points around the perimeter of both eyes.  It takes around 15 minutes for the anesthetic to take effect.  During the treatment I felt a slight pressure and stinging sensation while the needles were being inserted.  A small amount of carbon dioxide gas was injected just beneath the skin’s surface.  It works by increasing the oxygen flow to the target area. This sounds worse than it actually was.  Dr Haus is extremely gentle so don’t let this put you off and it is very quick I would say maximum 5 minutes

Afterwards Dr Haus cleansed the area with Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution and then applied some La Roche Possay Thermal Water and a cooling, soothing Camomile compress.  He asked me to rest and keep my eyes shut for 10 minutes.  After this time I was given a mirror to inspect the results.  My eyes were a bit red but this was a good sign and showed that the treatment had worked.   Dr Haus explained that the increased blood flow to the area would naturally boost collagen production.  This in turn improves the laxity of the skin and gives a natural tightening effect and lift to upper eye area.  I can concur that I definitely noticed this.  It gave my eyes a fresher, brighter appearance and the skin under the eyes was smoother and I had a more rested look

Dr Haus said that patients usually see results after 2-4 treatments but for optimum results he recommends a specially prescribed course of treatments to suit each individuals needs

A single treatment costs from £290 but he is currently offering a package of 6 treatments for the price of 5 if you opt for a pre paid package

This treatment can be performed on any skin type.  No need to worry as It does not affect your eyesight and usually no down time is required.   Of course this varies from patient to patient each patient but I would say to be safe book a day or two off from any major social events in your diary

The procedure itself takes about 5 minutes with pre and post preparations bringing total treatment time to about 45 minutes

Post treatment the Dr recommends La Roche Possay Thermal Water £10 150g to hydrate

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution for sensitive skin cleanser 250ml £10.  This can be used as a compress to soothe the area

La Roche Possay Hydraphase £15 15ml for eyes apply inside out gentle massage or if you wish to splash out Dr Haus highly recommends Dermage Clarite £130 15g as a star product

Denim Diaries – A/W 13 Edit at Donna Ida — September 17, 2013

Denim Diaries – A/W 13 Edit at Donna Ida

Last Saturday afternoon was all about retail, The Sociable Chatterbox visited her favourite denim boutique to see the lovely Donna Ida Thornton also knows as the Jean Queen at her Chelsea outpost.

I have since I was a young girl loved to dress up and while I do enjoy days looking girlie I have a tomboy side to me too.   Jeans are without doubt my wardrobe staple.   Who is counting but at a guess I must have at least 50 pairs.  Can a girl ever have too many?

Skinnies are my favourites, leather, denim or a mix of both, bright, light, dark, floral, cord there are so many to choose from and with seasons, days of the week and occasions who needs an excuse to buy another pair..?

Donna Ida Thornton says ‘This season is very luxe, hit on one of the highlights with silk, velvet, leather or fur.  You don’t have to go top to toe but just a hint of texture will add another dimension to your outfit and keep you looking fresh and on-trend.’

J Brand, Current Elliott, Hudson, Rich & Skinny I could go on and on and on about my favourite brands but and I was inspired by the impressive new collection now available.  With Autumn setting in and the arrival of London Fashion Week I wanted to check out the new season looks and of course share my personal favourites with you.

Spoilt for choice like a kid in a candy store oh (for those with a sweet tooth) the lovely ladies at Donna Ida do have jars of sweeties on the counter, I of course was focused on the fabulous array of newly stocked labels on offer.

I fell head over heels in love with Frame Denim who are famed for bringing together LA quality denim influenced by a London fit, cut and style. The Le Luxe Skinny is a super sleek skinny I loved the jet black noir shade see Look 1.  A self confessed leather and J Brand the Clean Leather Leggings fitted to perfection and are timeless see Look 2.  Last but by now means least I just couldn’t resist French brand La Prestic Ouiston collection and adored the Panther Trench Dehors see Look 3 bang on trend for the season ahead.

I had took the opportunity to put together three different looks; one for Monday Movies, Saturday Night and Sunday Brunch.  Hope you like them!

Expert Advice – How to stay Bootylicious and be Bikini ready with VelaShape II — September 3, 2013

Expert Advice – How to stay Bootylicious and be Bikini ready with VelaShape II

Expert Advice from Harley Street – Dr Ariel Haus, Cosmetic Dermatologist

The Sociable Chatterbox was invited to return to Harley Street to visit Dr Haus and his lovely team to try a Velashape II treatment.  It’s always good to see my beautiful Brazilian friends whose warm sunny disposition is just like the climate in their magical country

Dr Ariel Haus
Dr Ariel Haus

So what is Velashape …

It is a quick fix solution to looking even more fabulous and just on time for those Ibiza closing parties. It’s a body contouring treatment that tightens and shapes the body. It improves the appearance of cellulite and gives an overall more svelte defined shape after just a few treatments and no downtime is required

My Personal Treatment Experience

To start a specially formulated Velashape soothing caffeine rich gel spray full of antioxidants, green tea extract and vitamin E was applied to area to be treated. There was the option to concentrate on just one area or to have a more full body treatment

I opted for just one area, as this was a trial so that I could describe the treatment to you my dears.  So once the treatment began It felt like a hot deep tissue massage. The intensity of the machine can be adjusted to suit your tolerance and lasts approximately 30 minutes for one area and up to 1 hour for full body.  More spray is applied after the treatment, which has a cooling effect. I had a slight redness but results were immediately visible. This treatment works well in combination with a regular fitness and detox programme

VelaShape II Treatment
VelaShape II Treatment

How it Works

VelaShape works by using a combination of four different technologies: Bi-Polar Radio Frequency and Infrared are emitted which stimulates and manipulates the tissue by physical massage and vacuuming movements. The vacuum breaks down the fat cells which helps the body to eliminate it with the toxins later, resulting in smoother appearance. As well as this it increases blood circulation and lymphatic drainage to the area having a toning effect on the skin. Velashape is the newest and more effective technology available here in the UK. The treatment is especially popular in Brazil and the US

My opinion is that it is well worth the investment if you are slipping into your bikini soon and in need of confidence boost. Dr Haus told me that many Models of course we are like the “3 Monkeys” and would never reveal any names often indulge in a course of treatments before important photo shoots so that no airbrushing is required!

It works well on the thighs, arms, back, abdominals and can even lift the buttocks to give a more peachy “o la la la” appearance

The good news is that they are offering a special package for a course of treatments to all of The Sociable Chatterbox readers for £900 for 6 sessions of 30 minute VelaShape II treatments.  A treatment plan will be tailored to your specific requirements

Please do let me know if you would have any specific questions for Dr Haus or if there are any treatments you would like me to experience on your behalf
